Here is something I read recently about Tom Lefroy and Darcy I thought would be good here! Speaking of the man himself! I will put my vote in too!:)

Not the real Mr DarcyTom Lefroy was no rich, dashing
The real Mr Willoughby? ... A miniature painting of Tom Lefroy So that's it. The real Mr Darcy has been found. Tom Lefroy is the man Jane Austen had in mind when she wrote Pride and Prejudice. Never mind the fact that he was nothing - nothing - like Mr Darcy. It's nonsense of course, but you can now go to any number of websites from the BBC to the Sun to the Independent (...)

Lefroy and Austen undoubtedly had a thing and probably fell in love. What you won't get any Austen expert saying is that she based her most famous male character on Lefroy.

Colin Firth is the one for me, I must admit.
Matthew McFadyean looks and acts like a potato. Couldn't warm to him at all.

I always think that it's the first Mr Darcy you see that'll always be The One for you, Mrs W. My late mama-in-law stayed loyal to Laurence Olivier's Darcy all her life.

I loved Colin as well, and voted for him based on the fact that he does exemplify Darcy and played a modern version of himself in Bridget Jones as Mark Darcy. I am not alone in being a fan! I met him for 2 seconds outside a restaurant he was coming out of from a film festival party. Not even thinking of the festival just trying to get from A-B there he is! you can bet I threw a wobbly and just clammed up! and grinned stupidly. I have met celebs before and found it always seemed to happen when I least expect it. However if I ever meet Alan Rickman over this way I will not be conscious enough to grin.

LOL!:D He was awful in it. Like he didn't want to be acting in it. Strange. I blamed KK at first but have since relented.
He was fabulous in Little Dorrit, so go figure.

Colin Firth was the only actor who understood the Darcy character. All the others are so dreadful I can't watch them. I would recommend reading the BBC's The Making of Pride and Prejudice book as Colin Firth explains how he portrayed the marriage proposal scene (and others). It gives you a real insight as to how much he researched into the Darcy character.
I remember on watching the BBC version for the first time how much of a shock the proposal was, as up until that point you really believed that he hated Lizzie. The other versions might as well be Mills & Boon stories, not Jane Austen.

Fall 2009
The Jane Austen Festival
Friday 18th to Sunday 27th September 2009
The Bath Jane Austen Festival was the idea of David Baldock Director of the Jane Austen Centre and the first Festival took place in 2001. “My aim was to draw attention to this very popular author whose works were so influenced by the city by holding an annual celebration where Austen fans from all over the world could come and indulge themselves in everything Regency.”
Each year the Festival, which is held at the end of September, grows and grows with more people dressing in Regency costume celebrating the life and works of Jane Austen. Throughout the city events are organised by the Festival team under the guidance of Jackie Herring the Festival Director. Entrance to the events is by ticket and those go on sale at the Bath Festivals Box Office a few months before the start.
The most spectacular day each year is the first Saturday, when the festival officially ‘opens’ with the Regency Costumed Promenade through the streets of Bath. Promenaders from all over the world dress in 18th Century attire led by our Town Crier and accompanied by soldiers and sailors adding extra colour to the proceedings.
In 2008 we organised for the first time a traditional Country Fair in Queen Square where not only promenaders but also the general public could partake of the sideshows and stalls as well as try the stocks for size!
Small soirees, theatre, concerts, walking tours, food, talks and of course dancing plus the opportunity to dress throughout the week, if you wish, in 18th century costume. These are some of the attractions of the Jane Austen Festival.
The website is being updated all the time as and when details become available and events are finalised.
