Six Degrees of :

Richard Lumsden

As most of you know this actor played Robert Ferrars on the 95' version of S&S with Emma Thompson but for some this may be all you know. Here are some interesting facts I have come across recently.

Richard Lumsden
First of the Summer Wine is where we will start
*
*
This show very rarely known he played
a character named Compo this role
connects him to Are you being served?
Frank Thornton plays his character many years later
and Mollie Sugden who also played Mrs. Goddard in
an earlier Emma and on Coronation Street sadly we lost her this July 09'
*
*
This connects her to Patricia Routledge to played Mrs. Jennings in an earlier version of S&S her connection to Corrie connects her to Prunella Scales who was in 96' version of
Emma (Miss Bates) and also in An Ideal Husband and Jeremy Northam who was in 95' Emma which connects him to Emma Thompson as he was in Carrington and Emma Thompson is in 95' version of S&S she is also sister in law to Richard Lumsden
*
*
And this connects to many others as Hugh Grant, Hugh Laurie and Colin Firth was in S&S as well as Imelda Staunton who also worked in "Is it Legal?" with Richard Lumsden.
Emma Thompson worked with Hugh Laurie in Footlights and Colin Firth in Black Adder along with Stephen Fry who is now slated to play Mr. Bennet in a spoof film of P&P which Colin Firth was in as well as Julia Sawalha
Julia has recently been in Lark Rise to Candleford with Linda Bassett who also played in the 08' version of S&S and Linda has been in Calendar Girls with Celia Imrie
Celia Imrie has been in Bridget Jones with Colin Firth and Kingdom with Stephen Fry and Doc Martin with Martin Clunes who was in Jeeves and Wooster with Hugh Laurie who was in Sense and Sensibility with Richard Lumsden etc....

--So you see a connection it is amazing how circular all these great actors starting from someone that most people would't recognize until you watch Sense and Sensibility.
So if you can do one of these and see how much you learn about your favourite actress or actor, just an interesting game let's see what all of you come up with.
Enjoy!!;)

Actually Richard was Foggy in FOTSW but yes I can see that certainly as a great many actors have been in Austen adaptations since the 1930's. It is sad that BBC and ITV are not promoting anymore adaptations as they are more that could be done. I could never get bored of them that is for sure. If there was a period drama channel I would be glued and weigh 300 pounds from not moving. I have always loved period dramas no matter what author and though some have irked me others have enthralled me. As I am a romantic at heart I watch them all as they come along. I just wish they would ask the fans who they want to play their heroes and heroines and perhaps make longer series to play out the entire of Austen writings from the beginning.

I will try that when I have a minute and see if I can do better.
