For all of you who still don’t know it, my favourite author is Jane Austen. Some people ask me, “Why Jane Austen?” Well, there are lots of reasons why I love her books. The first time I read one of her novels was when I was 17 years old, and it was Emma. I liked it, but not too much. I thought that Emma was an insufferable spoiled child. However, I felt curious about reading the rest of novels by the authoress of that novel. That is how I read Pride and Prejudice…. and I loved it!! That’s it! I was in love with Jane Austen!
But, why do I feel so attracted to Jane Austen and her novels? I think that her style is very particular, and I really think that we have things in common. I am a real fan of her subtle irony, since I also use it. And her writing styles is very simple, but deep at the same time. I love that. A book easy to read, but conveying a very deep message, with multiple layers.
I have always thought that Jane Austen has a novel to suit all tastes. Yes, I know, all of them deal with women who in the end get married to the right gentleman for them. But we don’t have to read the novels in such a superficial way. We have to dig deeper, and if we do that, we will discover that each novel deals with something different. So, for that same reason, you can turn to Jane Austen whenever you feel sad, disappointed, happy, excited, in love, anguished,…. A novel for everyone, and an interpretation for every mood.
