Well, what a disappointment the Oscars were for us Brits! No statue for Mr Firth or Kitty Bennet, sorry, Carey Mulligan. A shame because ‘An Education’ is the best film I’ve seen in a long time and of course it was an absolute Austen-fest! Never mind, I have added a little Oscar magic to this month’s newsletter and decorating our Easter Bonnets will cheer us up!

The centre is in Maidstone, very close to Tonbridge in Kent where Jane Austen’s father was born.

A Single Man – in possession of a good fortune??
Colin Firth The staff of the Jane Austen Centre went to see ‘A Single Man’ together and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a beautifully shot movie and the attention to detail was most impressive. Colin Firth turned in a very touching performance and you can read an interview with him in this second dose of Oscar sparkle.
