As
Father's Day is celebrated this month in the UK, I thought it would be
nice to spare a thought for possibly the most important man in Jane's
life, her father, the Rev George Austen. He would have been 176 last
May 1st.
According to the author and Jane Austen expert Maggie Lane, he
was described in his youth as 'the handsome proctor ...
with bright, intelligent dark eyes ... his chief personal
attraction.' Quite a guy.
If you travel by British Airways this summer look out for The Jane
Austen Centre and Bath as it is part of the in-flight entertainment
before the film 'Becoming Jane'.
Finally, you must read the next part of our serial There
must be Murder. Chapter 6 - Murder and Everything of the Kind:
Theories
abound as neighborhood secrets are revealed
