It's so cold! Does no-one know it's supposed to be May? It was nicer in May 1813 when Jane wrote to Cassandra, "How lucky we were in our weather yesterday!" Still, plenty to take your mind off inclement weather this month; news from The British Library, steaming hot coffee and thoughts of Mr. Knightly to name a few! Enjoy it.

I do love the British Library! Using their 'Turning the Pages™' system you can now view 'The History of England' online and magnify the details, including of course Cassandra’s witty illustrations. It is quite wonderful, but please note, there will be very few dates in this history . . . . .

Denise Lewis OBE will be swapping her trainers for walking boots as she joins Breast Cancer Care for a countryside walk to help support women and men living with breast cancer. Why don’t you join them too? On June 5th there will be a walk at Harewood House, otherwise known as ‘Pemberley’ from the ITV drama series ‘Lost In Austen’.

Brontes replace Austen? Never!

Now, I know this isn’t strictly about Jane Austen but it is about costume drama as there are new adaptations of both ‘Jane Eyre’ and ‘Wuthering Heights’ on their way. Many of us here at the Centre love these modern (i.e. nineteenth century!) stories, so I am sure that you will too.

This is very topical with us here at the Centre as our Regency Tea Room has just been given the prestigious ‘Award of Excellence’ by the Tea Council. Jane Austen A new book containing twenty stories inspired by Jane Austen has just been announced. There are lots of familiar names amongst the authors, including Amanda Grange, Syrie James and Jane Odiwe. You could join them as there will be a short story contest hosted by the The Republic of Pemberley to fill the final slot. Get typing!!

You can now vote in the 2010 Regency World Awards.Have your say on your favourite portrayl of Emma Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley amongst other things. Sigh, "But Mr Knightley is so very fine a man!" I shall leave you to ponder over Jeremy Northam versus Johnny Lee Miller et al. You may need another coffee!
