Our wooden tape measure does not automatically retract with the push of a button! You have to rewind these measures with the little handle on the top. Modernity is not the idea of these beautiful objects, but to encapsulate the charm of vintage Regency sewing items.
The tape unwinds by pulling on the ring, and is rewound by turning on the small knob placed on the end of the tape measure.
The body of the tape measure is made in the form of a small barrel. The base diametre is 2.5cm and it measures 3.6cm in height, knob not included.
The knob has a small hole through the centre to allow the measure to be threaded onto a necklace or keyring if so desired.
This tape measure casing is made from hornbeam wood, and the actual tape is a woven blue ribbon.
As the fashion houses of Paris France were renowned for luxury fabrics and top-class needlework, this is where this charming tape measure comes from – hence the French writing on the lovely patterned presentation box.
