Sanditon Celebrated With a 12 Metre Painted Mural

ITV's Sanditon, the dramatisation of Austen's unfinished final novel, was highly anticipated, but to generate extra buzz for its launch, ITV came up with a rather novel form of promotion. It commissioned the renowned landscape painter, David Downes, to create a huge mural painting on a advertising billboard in Charminster, a suburb of Bournemouth in Dorset. Normally to be found in his Essex studio, David's 12 metre wide rendition of Sanditon is the largest piece he's ever created and was painted over five days in late August. The piece is inspired by the vistas of nearby Lyme Regis and Bridport and features a number of fishing boats, along with a Napoleonic galleon. David's work is on display until 20th September 2019 at the corner of Charminster Avenue and Rutland Road. The postcode is BH8 9SF or you can find it using what3words location nest.spark.modern.
